Virgo season officially began on the night of August 22nd, and we’re already about halfway through it.

This year, the season is marked by the South Node leaving Virgo and the Moon growing toward the Pisces eclipse. In its most positive expression, this points to growth—but not the passive kind. It is a month that ties responsibility, organization, material obligations, creativity, and health to the deeper work of healing not only our own psyche, but also the roots of what came before us.

At first, this may seem like energy perfectly suited to mundane life. Virgo, after all, is often associated with order, routine, health, work, and the practical details that keep life moving. But beneath those seemingly ordinary concerns, something much greater is stirring: absolute change, with its eyes wide open and fixed on the future.

On a mundane level, you may feel the urge to clean things up—the usual Virgo OCD impulse. But behind that impulse lies something much greater than tidiness. It is the desire for improvement on every level: uprooting what no longer benefits us, flushing out what has become stagnant, and removing what bears no fruit so that something else has room to grow.

Virgo is one of the most important signs—or rather, energies—connected to spiritual life, and yet it is so often praised mainly for its ability to maximize, organize, and manage material life. And I find that very offensive.

The material and the spiritual are not separate. Without a sturdy foundation in the material world, the other side begins to fester with worms and decay. No serious spiritual effort is possible without the power of Virgo, because Virgo teaches us how to tend the ground on which everything else must grow.

This season, I see a push toward the ruthless organization of everything that has remained stuck inside our homes, our psychological lives, and our emotional lives. It stirs the energy to wake up, shake off the webs, throw out the trash, and resurface with renewed energy and creativity.

This is where the growth of the season begins to make sense: growth is not only about adding more. Sometimes growth requires removal. Sometimes the soil has to be cleared before anything healthy can take root.

Virgo asks us to master the material plane by becoming ruthless about what we allow to remain in our lives. Keep the absolute best. Engage fiercely with your creative power. Flush out your worst tendencies. Remove what is stagnant, what is excessive, what has already finished its purpose.

Prepare the soil well enough that what comes next has no choice but to grow.
